It is the hormone testosterone that deepens males’ voices, strengthens bones and increases muscle mass. It affects male behavior and enhances sex drive. Research is being done on the effects of this hormone on the heart and its circulation. The direct link between heart disease and testosterone was never founded although medical experts say there is a connection. Their hypothesis is based on the fact that males have more testosterone than females and studies show the males acquire heart disease a decade before women do.

There are experts who say too much testosterone leads to a higher chance of getting hypertension and heart disease thus confirming a negative effect on the heart. However, low testosterone leads to obesity, diabetes and insulin resistance which all raise cardiovascular risk. Those suffering from both testosterone insufficiency and diabetes also suffer from the hardening of arteries. To avoid such a life-threatening disease, it is advisable for males to undergo testosterone replacement therapy or other treatment options.
